CSE Organizes seminar on “Derivatives”. CSE tries to popular “Derivatives” among brokers, says A B Siddique, CEO

Chittagong, August 9, 2006: In a bit to popular “Derivatives” among the CSE brokers, CSE has arranged another seminar in Chittagong today on “Derivatives” for the high officials of CSE brokers.

CSE has been organizing same kind of seminars since 15th May, 2006 with its Chittagong Based Members, on 24th May with Dhaka Based Members and on 22nd June with Sylhet Based Members.

While inaugurating the seminar Mr. AB Siddique Chief Executive Officer of CSE said, Bangladesh Capital Market will have a new dimension in the near future when adding “Derivatives” with the existing equity products.  He went on, “Derivatives which is widely, and actively transacting in the developed country exchanges. Our neighboring country like India that has National Stock Exchange participated total trade volume in June 2006 Tk. 88,364 crore and out of that 79% traded by Derivatives products and rest of 21% traded with equity products.”

He said, it is the first step to aware our members and very soon the trading will take place in our trading system. He said, the derivative products, which do not exist at all in our stock market, are the most popular investment instruments for the corporate investors as well as for individuals in the developed countries in India, Pakistan etc.

Mr. Atiquzzaman, Head of Market Operations & Compliance while delivering on the topic said, Derivatives is an Investment/Product which does not have any value on its own i.e. It derives its value from underlying assets, which can be a stock, bonds, commodities, interest rate, exchange rates or stock or other market indices, rainfall, temperature etc. Derivatives give us a choice to trade on the underlying at a fraction of a cost i.e. Derivatives are leveraged products.

He also elaborately discussed on the various products on Derivatives such as Forwards, Futures and Options.
